Chalk
Bio
Chalk is the three-piece project of award winning musicians and filmmakers Ross Cullen, Benedict Goddard, and Luke Niblock.
The band formed after they met whilst studying film and realised they shared the same musical vision and ambitions. Inspired by the ferocity and live performance of Dublins Guitar Band scene,
and informed by the sweaty hardcore dance scenes of their native Belfast, the band are IDLES meets Daniel Avery, Death Grips meets Bicep - techno-infused gothic post-punk.
With the release of their debut EP 'Conditions', the band interweave their industrial noise/techno hybrid soundscape and the monochromatic gothic visual landscape they have created for themselves in an evocative and seamless manner. On their second, ‘Conditions II’, they explored themes of nosatlgia, love, pressure and loss on a four-track EP that combines techno with indistrial post-punk and indie-rock.
Already fearsome performers (winning ‘Best Live Act’ at the NI Music Prize 2023, the youngest band ever to do so), the band have had sold-out headline performances in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Brighton, Leeds, Dublin and Belfast. Coupled with a storied festival circuit, live sessions with BBC Radio 1 and KEXP ans support for IDLES and PVA, they have more than earned their moniker ofn “The most exciting NI band in years.”
